FKEE was establish three research cluster in order to support our research & developement; Applied Electronic and Computer Engineering (AppECE),  Instrumentations & Control Engineering (iCE) and Sustainability Energy & Power Electronics Research (SuPER).

Applied Electronic and Computer Engineering (AppECE)

Applied Electronic and Computer Engineering (AppECE) was established in 2006 as one of the research clusters in Faculty of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, UMP. It is divided into three groups, focusing on three areas of research, aiming toward the establishment of center of excellence. The three research groups consist of Vision Intelligent System (ViSIS), Advanced Signal Processing (ASP) and Applied Electronics (AE).

Three main research groups have been established under AppECE research cluster to focus on the establishment of center of excellence:

1. Vision Intelligent System (ViSIS)

The focus ofViSIS Group is in the field of image processing and intelligent systems in engineering applications. Various challenges and barriers that exist in smart technology and machine vision systems have prompted a group of experts to explore the areas of research using computer vision covering diverse specialties such as artificial intelligence, and integration of image analysis and machine learning. Its main purpose is to use vision and intelligent systems in a variety of applications that meet the needs of industry and consumers. The group is also active in research in the field of automation, robots and control systems, agriculture and food processing, defense, and security monitoring systems, thermal imager, intelligent driving assistance systems and intelligent transport systems.

2. Advanced Signal Processing

3. Applied Electronics (AE)

AE focuses on research in the field of micro-and nano-electronics, including fabrication, microelectronic circuit design, and exploration of new techniques in design of integrated circuits. The group is also involved in research in the field of telecommunication engineering that focuses on the design of antenna systems, radio frequency (RF) and wireless telecommunication. Through collaboration with Agilent Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd., a research laboratory was established under this group, based on the module from the collaboration between academia (Industry-Center of Excellence, I-CoE) and industry (Agilent UMP). In addition, the group is also involved in research in the field of bio-medical engineering, where research projects are focused on building and designing electronic applications that meet the needs of applications in medicine and biological sciences.

Instrumentations & Control Engineering (iCE)

iCE was established in 2006 as a research cluster group in FKEE UMP. This group has been divided into three main areas which aim towards the establishment of centre of excellence. The three main areas consist of Robotics & Unmanned Systems (RUS), Control & Instrumentation (COINS) & Control & Optimization (COOp).

 

1. Robotics & Unmanned Systems (RUS)

RUS is focused on robotics and unmanned control systems including structural mechanisms that include motion control systems, system design, scan-based control, navigation and mapping, signals filtering and biological robotic systems. The research activities involved all mediums of applications, including:

 

    1. Exploration and waters
    2. Defence and military technology
    3. Assistance and humanitarian
    4. Building constructions
    5. Agricultural technology
    6. Smart sensor technology
    7. Process control in oil & gas industry
    8. Intelligent electronics devices

 

2. Control & Instrumentation (COINS)

COINS is focused on the design and development of equipment, including surveys and technologies as follows:

3. Control & Optimization (COOp)

COOp is focusing on the control and development model focused on the accuracy of model-based approach and optimum integration. They are also involved in intelligent control and application models such as fuzzy logic, neural networks and intelligent algorithms. Optimization techniques has also become part of this group's expertise

Sustainability Energy & Power Electronics Research (SuPER)

Sustainability Energy & Power Electronics Research (SuPER) Group was found in 2006 as one of the research cluster in Faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (FKEE), UMP. The group focuses on reaserch in the field of electrical engineering.

The research area has been divided into three main scopes:

1. Power Electronics & drives

2. Power Systems

3. Renewable Energy
