Double PhD Programme (UMP - UNS)

This programme is based on a mutual agreement between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS) securing the framework of the double PhD programme. At the end of this programme, the PhD student shall receive two PhD degrees, awarded by UMP and UNS. This framework will produce high impact research collaborations and knowledge sharing between two universities, while producing high quality and competitive students.

Duration of the programme:

The programme takes three years to complete. The candidates are required to spend at least six (6) months at UMP and at least one (1) year at UNS.

Entry requirement:

Candidates should have a Master Degree in relevant studies from the University or Institute recognized by the University Senate or an equivalent professional qualification in a related field recognized by the Senate.

Candidates should have a good command of English equivalent to IELTS (Academic) Band 5.0, TOEFL* paper based 500 points (for international students only) and MUET Band 4 (for local students only).

The field of research study:

Candidates can specialise in any of the following field of research study (but not limited to):

    • Communications

    • Embedded systems

    • Information technology

    • Network and security

    • Computational biology

    • Computing

    • Software and knowledge engineering

The benefits of the programme:

The programme, resulting from this collaboration, is prestigious in nature as the students have access to the top researchers from both universities. This provides fantastic opportunities for PhD students to distinguish themselves from others. The other obvious benefits for students are:

    • access to complementary facilities and resources

    • exposure to two cultural approaches to research

    • international student mobility

    • enhanced acquisition of research and transferable skills, such as negotiation skills, use of videoconferencing and 

      adaptability
    • better networking opportunities for future job prospects

        

Although this joint-supervision programme appears to be a fairly specialised type of doctorate, they also benefit doctoral research in the case of:

    • Comparative research projects

    • Research projects requiring techniques, equipment or resources available in two universities

    • Local industrial/public sector involvement in two countries

    • Dual supervision allowing complementary approaches to research questions

Programme Fees:

The fees of this programme follow the fees of conventional PhD programme at both universities as follows:

The tuition fees at UNS are based on regular French university fees, which is approximately 600 euros. This fees cover course expenses for one (1) year.

Candidates are advised to look up for a suitable supervisor from both UMP and UNS in his/her field of interest. The information of supervisors and their expertise can be found from the following links:

Candidates are encouraged to discuss with the potential supervisors from both universities on the complement research subject that will be conducted during the study.
