DISCUSSION ON “WOMEN & THE ENGINEERING WORLD” is a program organized by the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Society (EEES) in collaboration with Department of Student Affairs & Alumni (SAffAD) aimed at sensitizing the awareness of UMP female students on the reality of the engineering world. In addition, this program is one of the efforts taken towards preparing UMP female students in facing the challenges and competition from male counterparts especially in securing jobs in the highly competitive engineering world. The discussion was held at FKEE Lecture Hall 1, Universiti Malaysia Pahang on 12th of May 2017.

The program started at 8.00 p.m., began with registration session for participants which comprised 40 FKEE students. At approximately 8.45 p.m., speakers, namely, Madam Hjh. Siti Norazlina binti Mohd Ghazali (Electrical and ICT Engineer, Public Works Department), Ms. Junaidah binti Md Jan (Electrical Engineer, Public Works Department) and Madam Norizzan binti Abd Razak (Project Engineer, Sapura Kencana Petroleum) were ushered into FKEE Lecture Hall 1. The speakers took turn to introduce themselves and talked about their respective fields, their work, expertise and experience in the engineering world.

At 9.15 p.m., Session 2 continued with the speakers addressing questions related to the field of engineering from the moderator. Some of the questions posed were related to the challenges faced, solutions to overcome them, and how to secure jobs. Later, a Question & Answer (Q&A) session with the participants posing questions about the workplace to the speakers as engineers.

The program continued with the lucky prize draw to enliven the evening. Six participants were the lucky winners who received their prizes from Puan Norizzan binti Abd Razak, alumni of FKEE Universiti Malaysia Pahang. Alhamdulillah (praise be to The Almighty), with His Blessing, the program was indeed a success. At the end of the event, the guest speakers were presented with souvenirs by EEES advisor.

It is hoped that conducting this program would benefit FKEE female students in line with the program objectives, which aims to give them the exposure to the career of an engineer and the impetus to become successful female engineers in the future as well as develop and create future Universiti Malaysia Pahang female engineering graduates who would be proactive in undertaking their tasks.
